I just returned from a week long adventure trip in the Southern Baja California. My friend Harald and I, followed the rocky & dusty trails to some old cattle ranches and farms, far away from the asphalt Highways. Some of these places were probably established centuries ago by the Jesuits and other missionaries, to support their colonization of this rugged land, for the Spanish Crown. We navigated via GE satellite images, and got to our various destinations along the King's Highway, the Camino Real.

For better access to the Mercedes W463 Gwagon engine bay, and to keep the engine hood securely in a fully open position, you can install another ball-stud mount for the hood strut support. This will raise the hood higher than the stock position, giving you more space to work in the area of the engine bay closest to the firewall. When more access is needed for maintenance or cleaning, simply un-clip the hood strut from its original position at the bottom, and insert it onto the added "Maintenance Position" ball-stud.  Visited some friends on their ranch in La Ribera, and used the opportunity to test the low/high gear switching and the functions of the differential lockers in my G500. Beautiful beaches with nobody crowding us......another paradise on the Sea of Cortez.
